The event is sponsored by Team Fly Halo and SCOUT aviation. We would want to do it entirely free of charge. Yet to enforce discipline of participants we have set the participation fee to USD 700. The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Please sign up and pay the fee only if you are seriously committed to the event.

On my first visit to the US i was lucky to fly with my friends doing a road trip in the south west.
And since then I have unfinished business with the Grand Canyon. 

I flew it. I was right over it. Alone, scared, terrified.

All I got was one blurred photo from a GoPro3 with a scratched lens and even that got lost when my hard drive failed. Ever since I am dreaming of coming back. Would you join me?

We reserve the whole week for this one mission: Fly across the Grand Canyon. For this flight we pick the day with best weather conditions and the remaining days we will fly in other places in the region (Horseshoe bend, Rainbow Plateau, Monument Valley, maybe Sedona, Meteor Crater, …)

Dates:

  • September 12-19, 2026
  • we will meet in Grand Canyon Village
  • we dedicate one full week for this adventure with one and only purpose – to fly and cross the Grand Canyon
  • we will pick the best two days for the canyon crossing
  • the other days we will fly in the region: Sedona, Valley of Fire, Horseshoe bend, Rainbow Plateau, ….

Self-supported

  • every participant will arrive with his/her own SCOUT paramotor. For SCOUT pilots from far away we have rentals available.
  • every participants comes with his/her own car and camping gear
  • for the actual flight we will split into two groups. First group flies across and the other half drives around pick them up on the north side. The next day we swap. We will support each other. 

Risky? Yes.

  • 18 liters of fuel is mandatory. No excuse. We will fly at 11500 ft and at that altitude you basically need full power just to maintain altitude. We will be burning fuel fast and that’s why we need a lot more than you would think.  If your scout takes only 12 you can take extra 6 in a fuel bladder. Easy installation, no tools needed, no modification to your scout needed. 
  • High elevation take-off. We will take off at 7000+ft and that makes a long run, especially with all that fuel. be fit, run fast and if you think you cannot run any faster then push harder before you pull the brakes. When we had similar take-off on the Wingman Challenge only 6 out of 18 pilots made it that morning. If you have two wings take the larger one.  
  • high altitude flight – We will fly at the altitudes where oxygen supply is mandatory for general aviation. On the Wingman Challenge the young Judson got sick in the air at 12000 ft. Be fit, don’t drink alcohol, sleep well before the flight. 
  • tight spots for emergency landing with rough rocky terrain.  We will fly 12+ nautical miles over the Canyon. In case of an engine out or sickness you go down to the bottom with few small rough and rocky spots for emergency landing. No thing for beginners.  

Limited to 16 participants!

  • Special regulations apply and we must fly coordinated in the area.   
  • We will split into two groups. The first group (2 guides+8 pilots) will fly one day and the others drive around. Next day we switch.
  • Once 1 guide and 4 pilots are in the air they leave in a formation and stay together. The second guide is waiting for the remaining four pilots. No one flies alone!

Deadline for registration February 15th

  • this event is exclusive for SCOUT pilots = you must own one at the time of registration
  • owning a used one is eligible
  • we expect that there will be way more people registering than the 16 seats available. Hence we face the tough task to pick the 16 lucky ones. How shall we proceed?
    • Safety first> We must exclude beginners, sorry. Come back next year.
    • Secondly, we reserve five seats for our most loyal customers. Thank you guys. 
    • Then we proceed on the first-come-first-served basis
  • Background check may take a while. We hope to confirm the registrations by end of February and send the down payment invoices. 

Participation fee 

We wanted to make it completely free but then we would run the risk of enthusiastic people signing up (thank you) and not showing up (oh no!).

Hence we decided to charge a discipline fee of 700 USD. This fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. So please sign up only if you are super excited and also very committed.

Equipment

  • have your own SCOUT or rent one
  • upgrade to 18 liter tank or buy a 6 liter fuel bladder
  • 2 meter radio communication built into the helmet is mandatory. The guides will take care of the air-band radio communication on behalf of the group.   
  • we will provide Garmin inReach satellite communicators
  • all pilots take care of of their own transportation  and camping

Rental machines

  • Team Fly Halo can provide rental scouts. The scouts come with 12 liter tank.
  • the rental fee is 900 USD for the whole week + the 156 USD for the  fuel bladder that you get to keep.
